These writings are also not even meant to focus on political parties – just underlying philosophies of government and economics. It is just the underlying political philosophies of each group that are very different. In the end, members of both groups have similar dreams for themselves and their sons and daughters and grandchildren. I socialize with as many liberals as conservatives, and know that both groups have many intelligent, caring, and humorous individuals. This blog is not meant to be personal in any way. And we can find no comparable site for the Liberal position. Most other political blogs are based on emotion: Carefully select a quote or clip from the opposition and try to evoke anger or disgust. This blog also gets past the cartoon cutout version of conservatives as portrayed in the media and in liberal social circles (Conservatives are out to to destroy the planet, are racist, are anti-women, are the party of the rich, are being lead by Sarah Palin…), and present the logic and evidence for the real conservative side of the argument in some ways you may not have thought about before. My purpose is to present both political positions respectfully and fairly. There has never been a more important time to think deeply and open-mindedly about the policies that will move America forward again. It is an amazing time of extremism in the worst sense of the word. Meanwhile, a high number of Democrats are voting for an outright socialist, and the other candidate is moving hard left. About 35% of Republicans are voting for a pure anti immigration populist, and the field of true conservatives is very fractured, so the Republican party is in particular danger. These are also dark political times – The parties are literally in danger of breaking apart and/or losing huge brand credibility. For the young, there may be eighty more years ahead to live with the consequences of today’s political decisions – and far longer when you consider the impact of today’s actions on current or potential children and grandchildren. All of us need policies, whether liberal or conservative, that will set us back on the right path.
